This study aims to explore the role of the Sustainable Balanced Scorecard (SBSC)n achieving the pillars of a sustainable university, while highlighting the mediating role of Green Organizational Culture in Algerian higher education institutions. To this end, a conceptual framework was adopted that links the dimensions of the Sustainable Balanced Scorecard to the pillars of the sustainable university, with green organizational culture considered as a mediating variable that explains how organizational behaviors of relevant stakeholders are directed to ensure the effective implementation of strategic orientations. The study population comprised 6,334 permanent faculty members affiliated with 34 Algerian higher education institutions included in the 2025 THE Impact Rankings. To ensure geographical representativeness, a primary cluster sampling technique was employed, whereby the sample included institutions from the eastern region (El Oued University, Khenchela University, Oum El Bouaghi University, and Mila University Center), the central region (University of Algiers 3, the Higher School of Commerce, and the Higher School of Commercial Studies), and the western region (Djillali Liabes University of Sidi Bel Abbès and Naâma University Center). This process resulted in a final sample of 441 permanent faculty members. The study adopted a quantitative research approach through the design of a questionnaire for data collection. Validity and reliability tests were conducted, and data suitability for statistical analysis was verified. Descriptive statistical analyses were performed using SPSS, while the onceptual model and research hypotheses were tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) via the SEMinR software. Both the measurement and structural models were assessed, convergent and discriminant validity were examined, and direct as well as mediating relationships were tested. The study results showed that the measurement instruments demonstrated high levels of validity and reliability, and that the data were suitable for statistical analysis. It was also found that the dimensions of the Sustainable Balanced Scorecard have a positive and significant effect on the components of the sustainable university, with variations in effect strength across dimensions, the strongest effect observed on the green organizational culture and research sustainability, and the weakest effect on community engagement. The results further confirmed the effective mediating role of the green organizational culture in enhancing this relationship, particularly regarding the sustainability of campus operations and community engagement, thereby highlighting the effectiveness of the Sustainable Balanced Scorecard and the green organizational culture in supporting the sustainability of higher education institutions
